Cannonball Run record is one blazing record across the U.S. that is not easy to make, yet Ed Bolian of Atlanta, Georgia, recently claimed the title as fastest transcontinental "race-car" driver with a combination of breakneck speeds and unyielding ambition. CNN reports this Friday, Nov. 1, that in the “Cannonball Run,” a well-known race that spans from the American East Coast to West Coast, coming in first and beating the former record is of course a prime goal.
The Cannonball Run record was made this week by Ed Bolian, a 28-year-old man from Atlanta, who’s always had the dream of participating in the big race that is called the transcontinental chase. Prior to the gathered racers beginning the challenge, the starting speaker said:
"You all are certainly the most distinguished group of highway scofflaws and degenerates ever gathered together in one place."
Yet winner Ed Bolian likes to call all of them instead a “fraternity of lunatics.”
Bolian was one of a select few who decided to drive in a very real personal mission to beat the blazing speed records made while driving from New York all the way to Los Angeles. He had a tough record to beat in the “Cannonball Run:” David Maher and Alex Roy made their own breakneck pace and record across the country in a swift 31 hours and four minutes, which they made in a BMW M5 back in 2006.
Now, this 28-year-old man has easily trumped that Cannonball Run record, clocking in from east to west at only 28 hours, 50 minutes, and less than 30 seconds. His small but carefully selected team in the vehicle helped make the dream a reality. Their car of choice? A souped-up Mercedes.
"Most of the time, we weren't going insanely fast," Bolian said, but his type of “insane” speeds may not be akin to the everyday driver. Their average moving speed was around 100 miles per hour, while their top speed just broke a 158 mph, cites their onboard tracking device.
Talk about a trailblazer.
To a former winner and holder of the Cannonball Run record, Bolian said:
"I told him, 'One day I'd like to beat your record.” It seems that when it comes to claiming the Cannonball Run record, Bolian made true on his speedy promise across U.S. lands.
