The estranged wife of ex-NYPD police officer Gilberto Valle, 28, who has been accused of plotting to kidnap, torture, murder and eat dozens of women, took the stand in a N.Y. courtroom today and said that she was shocked to discover that Valle had visited a web site depicting photos of dead women and other disturbing images, according to FOX News.
That discovery on the part of estranged wife Kathleen Mangan, 27, ultimately led the feds to investigate Valle.
Regarding the website Valle had visited, darkfetishnet.com site, Mangan told the jury that:
"It was porn. It was disturbing"
The defense argued that Valle "never intended to kidnap anyone." Valle’s defense attorney, Julia Gatto , added:
"You can't convict people for their thoughts, even if they're sick."
The prosecution contends that Valle was very serious about his plans to kidnap, torture, kill and eat his female victims.
Although Valle never made good on his alleged plans, his web searches included “the best rope to tie someone up with, recipes, human flesh, white slavery and chemicals that can knock someone out.”
Valle is expected to take the stand in his own defense and tell the jury that all the web chatter about abducting, torturing and eating women was all fantasy role-playing on his part.
If convicted, the kidnapping count alone against Valle could result in a life sentence.
