Nugtella - a hazelnut chocolate mixture infused with hash oil “by patients for patients” was released and is quickly becoming a favorite of medicinal cannabis patients.
This potent spread is created in San Jose, California by Organicares, a non-profit medical marijuana dispensary which specializes in creating “medibles”, marijuana enhanced edibles such a oatmeal cookies, peanut butter brownies and crispy rice treats, each containing a significant amount of THC.
A one cup jar of Nugtella contains 320 mg of THC with 20 mg in a tablespoon.
Currently this product is available in California with a state approved medical marijuana card. Other states where medicinal cannabis is legal are considering it, however it is a controversial product.
For example, Massachusetts Department of Public Health states in their packaging and labeling requirements for medical marijuana:
"Marijuana shall be packaged in plain, opaque, tamper-proof, and child-proof containers without depictions of the product, cartoons, or images other than the [dispensary’s] logo. Edible [marijuana-infused products] shall not bear a reasonable resemblance to any product available for consumption as a commercially available candy.”
According to officials from the DPH,
“commercially available candy” means any product that is manufactured and packaged in the form of bars, drops, or pieces, and “that includes a sweetened mixture of chocolate, caramel, nougat, nuts, fruit, cream, honey, marshmallow or any similar combination to create a dessert-like confection.”
