The most important ingredient in any cannabis medicated snack or meal is simply the cannabis. The easiest way to infuse your medication into your food is through the use of Cannabis butter. Cannabis butter is dairy butter that is clarified and slowly heated with cannabis buds until the oil turns green.
I am asked the most about dosing, how much butter do I use in whatever I am creating? The answer is not simple, as a matter of fact it is very complicated and the best answer is; whatever works best for you. You need to experiment and learn to recognize where your tolerances are. Everyone is different and so too are the different cannabis strains. And like grapes the soil, sun, water and amount of available C02 plays a part in the potency and flavor of every batch grown.
Use cannabis butter to replace any butter or oil in any baking recipe. It is as easy as that to create your own cannabis baked goods. Start by following your own recipe or replace the oil in your favorite boxed mix. Don’t expose cannabis oils to any heat above 375 degrees this will diminish the effects of the active ingredients in your medication. That said, baking at higher temperatures will not break down the active ingredients until the internal temperature reaches above 375 degrees.
Cannabis butter has a lower burning point than even regular clarified butter. There is a flavor associated with the use of cannabis butter and oils. Some say the flavor reminds them of hops and fresh barley, while others say it tastes like hay. I am a hops and barley kind of person, but you must know this, the flavor is very much an acquired taste.
Once you have used the medicated butters and oils enough, you will begin to adjust your dosing. It is easier to get a handle on your dosing when you control the baking process. There are now thousands of pre-baked products available, but very few are accurately dosed. These little guy bakeries are buying the same oils as you and I, and their consistency from one dose to another is very poor.
When you bake or cook with cannabis the cul-de-sac knows, the smell is powerful. But now that we are free to enjoy our freedoms without the threat of prosecution, I say who cares let the smell waft. You might want to open a window if you live in an apartment; I hear some landlords are not tolerant of the smell.
If you have the ability to create your own cannabis medicated foods I encourage you to try. A simple replacement of medicated oil can save you hundreds of dollars a year in pre-made medicated food product. It also allows you to expand your knowledge on how and what strains best effect your symptoms and gets you feeling better.
Savor every bite like it’s your last. Enjoy.
