Canine Ginja found after abduction from Buffalo city shelter

Ginja, the canine victim of a vicious dogfighting ring, has been found after her abduction from a local city shelter in Buffalo, New York. Ginja was seized in a felony animal cruelty case, and her owner was arrested and later charged with four felony counts of training dogs for the purpose of fighting. Ginja was placed in a shelter, only to be stolen shortly after.

As detailed in a recent press release, thus began the involvement of animal rights attorney Matt Albert, who immediately contacted Guardians of Rescue (GOR) for help. GOR in turn enlisted the help of a private investigator.

“This poor dog was placed in a shelter only to be seized for a purported return to the ring, and she has defied the odds once again,” said Robert Misseri, president of Guardians of Rescue based in New York.

“She had not only been injured from her bouts in the ring, but was returned with a heavy chain around her neck and malnourished,” said Misseri.

Ginja was rescued after the fundraising efforts by GOR and Matt Albert produced $7,000 for her safe return. Guardians of Rescue contributed $5,000 and Mr. Albert contributed $2,000 from their efforts.

One of GOR’s private investigators on the case said that given the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, her whereabouts will be kept a secret, as they don’t want a repeat of the last scenario. Guardians of Rescue will aid in the process of placing Ginja with a rescuer who will place her in a loving home.

“It is our hope that our campaign to rescue this mistreated dog will result in an awareness of the horrific dogfighting rings, and demand action to end it,” continued Misseri. “We are also excited by the prospect of Ginja finally becoming a part of someone’s family, and elated to have played a part in this happy ending. With more people willing to put a stop to this cruel sport, we have a chance of curtailing it. Ginja can serve as the ‘poster dog’ in the campaign, a well-deserved honor and spend the rest of her life fighting for kisses.”

From the sad life of a dog facing death every time her owner placed her in the ring, to a beloved family pet, Guardians of Rescue wishes to thank all those involved in the efforts to rescue her, and share with them the success those efforts brought.
