Many people celebrate their dog’s birthday. I’ve written about canine birthdays before and even using canines as birthday cards. This birthday part V is special because my dog Said (“Sigh-eed”) just celebrated his 5th birthday.
It was a quiet affair. No grand parties, no fancy food. He did get a lot of love (I’m not sure that’s different from any other day though) and he got new toys!
He gets his birthday toys from a chain pet shop that I don’t normally go to. Partly because they are so expensive and partly because they sell pets – not dogs but little live things which is a big no-no in my book. You buy pet supplies, not pets.
But special occasions require special effort, so I got my boy some new toys.
One thing I do like about this store is that they have a lot of toys made of natural materials. I got him a cute little puppy and then they had a stuffed bear on sale so I got that too.
The bear caught his attention first and he sniffed it and chewed it and got it to squeak and threw it all around.
The puppy sort of grew on him. He started by licking it. Then he chewed, squeaked and tossed it around.
It’s now his favorite toy. When we go downstairs to bed at night he sometimes dashes back up the stairs and reappears with his puppy in his mouth.
Happy Birthday to Said and all the other canines out there!
