Alvarez said, "Tonight I was the best fighter. I definitely rebounded from the Mayweather fight with a strong performance. I'm very happy. I came here and did my job." Alvarez came into the ring extremely fast and blasted Angulo throughout the opening round. He started hitting quickly with a clean left hook and then a right hand. The crowd broke out into chants of "Canelo! Canelo! Canelo!" as Alvarez landed 37 of 62 punches to the head and body of Angulo.

Alvarez found redemption after Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight, reported CBS News. This fight was in marked contrast to the last bout for Alvarez, who was easily dominated by Mayweather. Alvarez fought hard to wipe out memories of the loss to Mayweather, which was the only one of his career. Alvarez was feeling more powerful with a much easier target in Angulo. Still, the purse was big for both fighters, with Alvarez guaranteed $1.15 million to $850,000 for Angulo. It looks like a good thing that the referee stopped the fight in time to keep Angulo from being severely hurt.
