Candle Magic

Since Imbolc is centered around the imagery of flame, candle magic is very seasonally appropriate. Basic candle magic is as simple as holding a candle in your power hand (generally the one you use the most), visualizing your intentions filling the candle, then lighting it and letting it burn out. It gets more complicated from there. You can carefully pick the correct color and scent of candle for your particular spell, anoint the candle with oils or herbs and carve runes or other symbols into it.

Nearly any spell can be translated into candle magic and candles can be consecrated for use in spells and rituals instead of just being used on their own. In general white scentless candles are the most versatile, able to be used in nearly any situation. If you do charge a candle for a particular purpose and do not let it burn out, save it to use for a similar purpose, or cleanse it and recharge it at the next use. To avoid this you can simply use tea light candles in fire safe containers to ensure you can allow them to burn out.

If you really want to have fun you can try your hand at making your own candles. The process really is not that hard. The simplest method is rolling beeswax sheets around a wick. The most easy poured method is to make jar candles with self standing wicks, just remember to save a little wax to top them off with as they cool.
