Victoria's Secret is getting ready for their 2013 Fantasy Bra in Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which will air Dec. 10 on CBS. The show, going on its 10th anniversary will once again feature the Victoria's Secret Angels in elaborate costumed lingerie and wings and of course one lucky Victoria's Secret Angel will get to wear the coveted 'Fantasy Bra'.
This year's honor goes to Candice Swanepoel who has been a Victoria’s Secret model since 2007 but this is the first time she will wear the 'Fantasy Bra' known this year as the Royal Fantasy Bra. Made of no less than 4,200 precious gems including rubies, diamonds, and yellow sapphires and set in 18K gold with a 52-carat pear-shaped ruby in the center the bra and matching belt, made by renowned jeweler Mouawad is valued at $10 million.
"They had to mold my body to be able to make [the bra], and I was really excited. I tried to imagine after they'd done the mold, how would they make it, how it would look. My imagination didn't do it justice. My favorite part is this beautiful 52-carat pear-shaped ruby. Every part of it is exquisite.”, stated Candice Swanepoel.
It's not the most expensive 'Fantasy Bra' to date though. In 2000 ex Victoria's Secret Angel, Gisele Bundchen wore the Red Hot Fantasy Bra/Panties set designed also by Mouawad that was made of 1,300 precious stones, including a total of 300 carats of Thai rubies and was valued at no less that $15 million and earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's most expensive piece of lingerie and was the first 'Fantasy Bra' to be featured on the runway.
The first 'Fantasy Bra was worn by Claudia Schiffer in 1996 (The Million Dollar Miracle Bra) but did not begin to appear in the runway show until 2001 with Heidi Klum in the Heavenly Star Bra. Heidi Klum is the only Victoria's Secret model to have worn three different 'Fantasy Bra' (first n 1999 but not in the runway show and again on the runway in 2001)Other Victoria's Secret's Angels that have worn the 'Fantasy Bra' include Daniela Pestova, Karolina Kurkova, Selita Ebanks, Adriana Lima in 2008 and then again in 2010, Marissa Miller, Miranda Kerr and Alessandra Ambrosio. Tyra Banks wore the 'Fantasy Bra' twice, once in 1997 and again in 2004 but neither time did it appear in the runway show.
The idea of the 'Fantasy Bra' came about as an idea by Victoria's Secret to be used as a focal point for promoting the fashion show and as a centerpiece within it. Victoria's Secret contracts a renowned jewelry designer to make the one of kind masterpiece and the the 'Fantasy Bra' is offered for sale inside the Victoria's Secret catalog label as the 'ultimate holiday' gift, even though none have been purchased since 1996.
