Cancer in the US: Death rate declining, incidence still rising

Although cancer incidence is still rising, a yearly report on cancer in the United States shows that the death rate for cancer has declined by 1.8 percent for men and 1.4 percent for women. Pediatric cancer deaths are also declining at a pace of 1.8 percent per year but its incidence, however, is still rising by about 0.5 percent annually.

After over 40 years of waging “war against cancer,” the cancer industry is still not spending any of its multi-billion dollar resources on effective prevention strategies, which include dietary intervention, exercise and weight control. The death rates of liver and pancreatic cancer, cancers among men, rates of melanoma, as well as HPV-related” cancers are still on the rise. The rise in "HPV-related" cancers have prompted many to urge for better HPV vaccine uptake.

Despite the fact that the clinical trials data have not displayed to date that HPV vaccines have actually prevented a single case of cervical cancer or cancer death, the claim that using the HPV vaccine may result in the reduction of cervical cancers is made. Merck’s own research also demonstrates that their HPV vaccine, Gardasil, can raise your risk of precancerous lesions by nearly 45 percent. This may happen if you receive the vaccine after having already been exposed to certain HPV strains included in the vaccine.

Last October, at least seven scientists resigned in protest Texas’ $3 billion cancer-fighting program, The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas. CPRIT was created with the backing of the governor and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong. The scientists claim that the agency is following a new “politically-driven” path that puts commercial interests before science.
