Brooke Burke Charvet shares anti-aging diet and workout secrets

"I totally am working hard at it," Burke Charvet told People. "There are no tips or tricks or secrets. It's sweat, it's hard work."

Brooke recently made headlines after she was photographed looking effortlessly sexy while pumping gas at a Los Angeles gas station (see photo above). The brunette beauty was embarrassed by the fuss.

"[Those photos] were everywhere!" she said. "It's not when I'm all glammed-up and walking out of the ballroom. It's when I'm in the gas station in my booty shorts."

The mother of four is doing well after overcoming a thyroid-cancer scare. Brooke underwent thyroid surgery to remove a benign tumor in her throat in December 2012, and said exercise is her antidepressant.

"Working to fatigue and pushing yourself to your limit every time you work out is what I'm totally into," she said. "I'm smarter [about my body] than I was in my 20s and 30s."

Burke Charvet said eating well is important for looking and feeling her best. "We try to eat a Mediterranean diet: lots of greens, lots of fish, lots of vegetables," she said.

"I never miss breakfast. I believe in good fuel and putting the right things in our body and drinking a lot of water and getting enough sleep. It all starts with nutrition."

Brooke, who got breast implants during her twenties, said women who get too much plastic surgery scare her. "Women who do too much scare me," she said. "I was married to a plastic surgeon, so I've seen it all. If a woman has done a bit of work, you should never know."

Over the years, Brooke has released a line of highly rated fitness videos. She revealed her diet, workout and weight-loss secrets in her best-selling DVD, Brooke Burke Body: 30-Day Slim Down.

Burke Charvet also teaches a workout class several days a week in Malibu, where she lives. As she has gotten older, Brooke has learned to exercise smarter, not longer. The "Dancing With the Stars" host said her workouts never exceed an hour, but she gets great results by pumping up the intensity.

"I'm totally working out harder than ever before, but I'm doing it in a smarter, quicker way," she said. "I don't have more than an hour to spend anywhere, anytime."

Burke Charvet, who has four children (including three daughters) wants to be a positive fitness role model for her kids, so she never uses the words "fat" or "diet" in front of them.

While many Hollywood celebrities dread getting older, Brooke is proud of how she looks and feels. "I work hard for [my fit physique], so I feel really good at 42," she said. "It's a commitment, and it feels good to be in shape."

Brooke revealed how she juggles motherhood, a happy marriage, fitness and a flourishing career in her memoir, The Naked Mom: A Modern Mom's Fearless Revelations.
