Cancelled PS4 Sony Liverpool title concept art surfaces (Photos)

As the world waits for Sony to officially announce the PlayStation 4 on Feb. 20, new images surfaced on Sunday that show concept art from a now cancelled version of “Wipeout” along with another Sony Liverpool title, both likely for the PlayStation 4.

Sketched by Darren Douglas, concept artist and art director of Sony Computer Entertainment Studio Liverpool, the art shows futuristic environments which were commonplace for the “Wipeout” franchise. The images were discovered by internet sleuth Superannuation.

Late last year, there was a rumor that Sony Liverpool was developing a “Wipeout” title to launch on PS4, however, soon after the release of “Wipeout 2048” on PS Vita, the studio was closed down.

In addition to concept art for a “Wipeout” title, there are other images for a completely different franchise.

In August of 2012, Eurogamer ran a rumor that Sony Liverpool was developing a “Splinter Cell” style game for PS4 along with a new “Wipeout”. The new concept art, dated from Sept. 19, 2012, appears to be this game.

The concept shows a variety of different characters in various environments – find the images in our media gallery here.
