Come enjoy a free walk through fields of dazzling dahlia at the annual Canby Dahlia Walk on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6-7, 2014. The walk starts and ends at Swan Island Dahlia Farm, 995 NW 22nd Ave., Canby, Oregon. Walkers can register and start at any time from 8 am until noon on either day and finish by 3 pm.
Walkers can choose a 5 kilometer (3.1 mile) or 10 kilometer (6.2 mile) route, both rated easy and mostly flat. The route is mostly paved but includes two blocks of gravel and walking on the grassy paths through the dahlia fields. It is suitable for strollers. The route includes a portion of the Molalla Forest Trail as well as residential neighborhoods.
The walk is untimed, you can enjoy it at your own pace. You will be amazed at the variety and color of the dahlias. Different varieties have fun names, too.
Pets are permitted, but must be kept on a short leash through the dahlia fields and are not allowed in buildings along the route. Portable toilets are available at the start/finish and there are restrooms and water along the route.
Registration is free, with optional IVV volkssport credit for a small fee. The walk is hosted by the Valley Volkswalkers walking club, who have hosted this event for many years. The route is marked with arrows and maps may be provided.
