Canadians win two medals in short track speed skating at Winter Universiade

According to the 2013 Winter Universiade website, Patrick Duffy of Oakville, Ontario and Caroline Truchon of Saguenay, Quebec each won silver medals on Thursday in short track speed skating at the 2013 Winter Universiade in Trentino, Italy.

Duffy and Truchon won their silver medals in the men's 500m and women's 500m respectively.

Duffy posted a time of 41.917 seconds to place in the middle of the medal standings between Hyobeen Lee of South Korea and Jingnan Shi of China. Lee posted a time of 41.642 seconds and Shi posted a time of 42.025 seconds.

Truchon posted a time of 44.834 seconds to place in the middle of the medal standings between Xue Wang of China and Agne Sereikaite of Lithuania. Wang posted a time of 44.713 seconds and Sereikaite posted a time of 45.044 seconds.

Truchon finished in seventh place in a World Cup event in Sochi, Russia last February and finished in eighth place in the 2013 World Cup standings for the women's 500m.

Despite their silver medal performances at the 2013 Winter Universiade, Duffy and Truchon will not represent Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Canada has now won three medals in the 2013 Winter Universiade in Trentino, Italy--all in short track speed skating. Yoan Gauthier of Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec won a bronze medal in the men's 1500m on Wednesday.
