According to the Canadian Press in an announcement made on Friday, hopefuls for the Canadian national women's hockey team will be in Sochi, Russia from September 8-11 to prepare for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
The Canadian team will play two games against Russia on September 8 and September 10. The Canadian team will also go through extensive practices in Russia and tour the athletes village.
Team Canada is trying to win their fourth consecutive gold medal in women's hockey after being triumphant at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino and the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
Russia meanwhile finished in sixth spot at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, but have serious work to do if they hope to land on the podium in February. Despite their 2-1 victory over China in the last Olympic tournament, they did lose 13-0 to the United States.
Canada's first game in the Olympic women's hockey tournament will be February 8 against Switzerland, while Russia opens against Germany on February 9.
