According to the Canadian Press, seven Canadian winter sports federations have joined forces in an attempt to generate more funds with the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi just over a year away.
In an announcement that was made on Thursday, the intention is to join forces so the associations will be financially stronger for years to come.
The organizations are Alpine Canada, Canada Snowboard, Ski Jumping Canada, Nordic Combined Canada, Cross Country Canada, the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association and Biathlon Canada.
The major intention is to develop a significant strategy to build corporate sponsorship. This is something that has dropped off minorly since the conclusion of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
Another interesting note is that the national sports federations also plan to help out athletes who will be participating at the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi and the 2018 Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang a well.
It will also be curious how much of the finances will go to the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association versus the other associations because the Canadian freestyle ski program is by far the strongest among the seven associations that are partnering together.
