Canadian Olympic Committee assists Own the Podium

According to the Canadian Press on Thursday, the Canadian Olympic Committee is pledging $37 million to Own the Podium over the next four years.

The funding will be in effect from 2013-2016, and will be a 48% increase compared to 2009-2012. It was stated in the report that "funding will go toward summer and winter sport".

The main initiative of Own the Podium, who has offices in Calgary, Alberta and Ottawa, Ontario, is to determine and prioritize "funding for national sports organizations with the aim for delivering more Olympic and Paralympic medals for Canada."

On Monday from Winnipeg, Canadian Olympic Committee president Marcel Aubut stated it was the COC's goal to win the overall medal standings at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
