According to the Canadian Press, Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Denis Brodeur of Montreal, Quebec passed away on Thursday at the age of 82.
Denis Brodeur played in three games as a goaltender for the bronze medal winning Canadian team from Kitchener-Waterloo in men's ice hockey at the 1956 Olympic Winter Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo. In one game during the tournament, he made 17 saves in a 4-0 shutout win over Germany.
Denis Brodeur, however would go on to achieve significant fame as an outstanding Canadian photographer. He was the official photographer for the Montreal Expos, was often seen taking National Hockey League photos at the Montreal Forum, and also had the honour of taking the photograph of Paul Henderson scoring the game winning goal for Canada over Russia at the 1972 Summit Series in Moscow.
He also passed on his goaltending genes. His son Martin, won two gold medals as a goaltender for Canada in men's ice hockey. The first came at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City and the second came at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Martin Brodeur is also a three-time Stanley Cup champion with the Devils and is the NHL all-time leader in goaltending wins and shutouts.
