Canadian Max Parrot, who achieved the highest score of the day on Feb. 6, 2014 in the Sochi Winter Olympics Men’s Slopestyle, expressed to reporters his disappointment that Shaun White dropped out of the competition, according to ABC News.
“I’m bummed he pulled out… I haven’t had a chance in the last year to compete against him. I showed up with two golds at X Games and would have loved to compete against him here,” he said.
The 97.5 Parrot scored today qualifies him to compete in the sport’s finals on Saturday, Feb. 8.
White announced on Feb.5 he would not participate in the slopestyle to focus on the halfpipe competition.
ABC reports that Parrot’s teammate, Sebastian Toutant, criticized White’s decision on Twitter, but has since deleted the post, saying it was misunderstood by his followers.
He stated, “…I wasn’t hating on Shaun… He’s dominated the halfpipe for a long time, but here, he’s the underdog. So I’m sad he chose to pull out,” according to ABC.
