Canada wins Olympic silver in women's short track speed skating relay

According to the Sochi 2014 website, Canada has won the silver medal in the women's 3000m short track speed skating relay at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi on Tuesday.

The Canadian team of Marie Eve Drolet of Chicoutimi, Quebec, Jessica Hewitt of Langley, British Columbia, Marianne St-Gelais of Roberval, Quebec and Valerie Maltais of Chicoutimi, Quebec posted a time of 4:10.641.

South Korea's Ha-Ri Cho, Alang Kim, Sangjeong Kong, Seung-Hi Park and Suk Hee Shim won the gold medal with a time of 4:09.498, while the Italians of Arianna Fontana, Lucia Peretti, Martina Valcepina and Elena Viviani won the bronze medal with a time of 4:14.014.

China meanwhile was disqualified for a lane violation.

Team Canada now has won 16 medals at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games--four gold medals, eight silver medals and four bronze medals.

Charles Hamelin of Levis, Quebec will not have a chance to defend his gold medal in the men's 500m short track speed skating event as he fell in the heats on Tuesday.
