Canada to face Poland for bronze in Olympic men's team pursuit speed skating

According to the Sochi 2014 website on Friday, team Canada has advanced to the bronze medal race in the men's team pursuit speed skating competition at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

The Canadians, led by Denny Morrison of Chetwynd, British Columbia, Lucas Makowsky of Regina, Saskatchewan, and Mathieu Giroux of Montreal, Quebec, are looking to win their second consecutive Olympic medal after shocking the sports world by winning a gold medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

The Canadian trio beat an American team that included two-time Olympic gold medalist Shani Davis of the United States in the quarterfinals before losing to South Korea in the semi-finals. The South Koreans will meet the Netherlands in the gold medal winning race.

The Netherlands have guaranteed their 22nd medal in long track speed skating at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Canada, Russia and the Czech Republic are the next closest nations with two medals each. The bronze medal race in the men's team pursuit will take place at 6:50 a.m. mountain time on CBC.
