Canada's 3 on 3 basketball team advances to semi-final at Singapore Youth Olympics, falls to China

The Canadian women's team made a clean 4-0 sweep of their round robin play to move into the knock out rounds of the FIBA 3 on 3 basketball tournament in Singapore at the first ever Youth Olympics.  In the quarter finals, Canada defeated Germany by a score of 33-15.  Here is the box score.  The team's next game was against China, who also finished 4-0 in round robin play, defeating Japan 26-23 to earn the chance to play against Canada.  Canada fell 28-21 to China in the semi final but can still

The Canadian 3 on 3 team consists of four players actually. Kaylee Halvorson(Regina, Saskatchewan), Kaylee Kilpatrick(St. John, New Brunswick), Tiye Traore(Sudbury, Ontario)  and Dakota Whyte(Ajax, Ontario).  The young ladies are coached by Jobina D'Aloisio.  The Canadians have a strong inside game, anchored by Kilpatrick, who was unstoppable, scoring 14 points against Germany.

Singapore is hosting the first ever Youth Olympics in history.  The 3 on 3 basketball tournament, as reported by FIBA basketball blogger Kristian Santiago has drawn some of the largest crowds of the 12 day games so far with exciting cage action.  With most games lasting about half an hour, the 3 on 3 tournament has been a crowd favorite.  Spectators have been flocking to the *scape Youth Space to watch the hoops action. All results will be posted on the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympics webpage.

Singapore's Youth Olympic Games have been a resounding success so far.  Featuring more than 3 500 young athletes from 204 countries(NOCs), the international multi-sport and cultural event has 184 events in 26 different sports.  Young athletes from the ages of 14-18 are allowed to compete in the IOC sponsored games.
