Canada places second in round robin at World Curling Championships

According to the Canadian Press on Thursday, Team Canada won its final two games of the World Men's Curling Championships in Beijing.

The Canadian squad led by skip Kevin Koe of the Glencoe Club in Calgary, defeated Germany 11-5 on Wednesday evening and then Scotland 7-5 on Thursday morning.

With the victory over Scotland and the 6-4 victory by China over Japan on Thursday morning, Canada clinched second place after the round robin with a record of 8-3.

The Canadians will now play Norway (10-1) in the 1-2 page playoff game Friday evening at 9:00 p.m. The winner will go directly to the gold medal final on Sunday at 1:00 a.m. mountain time, with the loser to play the winner of the 3-4 page playoff game in the semi-final on Saturday at 2:00 a.m. mountain time.

On Thursday, Sweden defeated Japan 8-7 in the fourth place tie-breaker. Sweden will now play Switzerland in the 3-4 page playoff game. Sweden lost 8-6 to Switzerland on Wednesday morning.
