Canada blanks Finland 3-0 in women's hockey action

According to CBC Sports, Canada shutout Finland 3-0 in women's hockey action at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Shannon Szabados of Edmonton, Alberta made 14 saves as Canada improved to 2-0 in group A standings.

Jayna Hefford of Trenton, Ontario was Canada's best forward. She notched a goal and an assist. Her goal was an unassisted 2-0 insurance marker where she beautifully stickhandled the puck and beat Finnish netminder Noora Raty. Hefford also recorded an assist on a goal by Rebecca Johnston of Sudbury, Ontario as Canada entered the Finnish zone on an uneven rush.

Finland stayed close with Canada as the game was scoreless heading into the third period before Meghan Agosta-Marciano of Windsor, Ontario scored on the power play in the top corner of the Finnish net.

With the victory, Canada improves to 2-0 and will play the United States for first place in Group A (Wednesday, 5:30 a.m., CBC). They have also guaranteed a spot in the semi-final.
