Canada beats China in Olympic women's curling

According to the Sochi 2014 website, Canada has won its first game of the Olympic Winter Games in women's curling on Monday.

Jennifer Jones's curling team from Winnipeg was dominant in a 9-2 triumph over China's Bingyu Wang, the 2009 world champion.

In the second end, team Canada went up 2-0 when Jones successfully drew a Canadian stone in behind a guard, and then in the third end Canadian third Kaitlyn Lawes delivered a double takeout that set up a Canadian stolen point when Wang racked off a Canadian stone in the twelve foot. Then in the fifth end, Jones had a double take out and a draw for two more points to put the Canadians up by a commanding 6-1 score.

Team Canada will now play another tough opponent in Margaretha Sigfridssion of Sweden, a four-time World Championship silver medallist, Monday evening at 10:00 p.m. (CBC). Sigfridsson delivered a significant 6-4 victory over reigning world champion Eve Muirhead of Great Britain.

Meanwhile, the Canadian men led by Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, lost 5-4 to Switzerland on Monday. Swiss skip Sven Michel won the 2013 European Curling Championship. Jacobs falls to 1-1.
