Canada advances to finals in women's hockey at 2013 Winter Universiade

According to the 2013 Universiade website, defenseman Brittney Fouracres of Airdrie, Alberta notched one goal and three assists and University of Calgary product Jenna Smith notched two helpers as Canada trouced Japan on Wednesday 15-0 in the semi-finals of the women's hockey tournament at the 2013 Winter Universiade in Trentino, Italy.

Fouracres, who attends the University of McGill, scored with 31 seconds left in the second period from Jessica Pinkerton of the University of Guelph and Cara Wooster of the University of Saskatchewan to put Team Canada up 8-0 at the time.

Canada will now play Russia in the final on Friday. The Russians upset the United States 3-2 in a shootout.

Team Canada has also advanced to the semi-final in the men's hockey tournament. On Wednesday Canada blanked Slovakia 6-0 in the quarterfinals. They will play Kazakhstan on Friday. Kazakhstan actually beat Canada 4-2 in the round robin on Sunday. Russia will play the United States in the other semi-finals.
