Can Pinterest save you money?

It may be a side effect of the economy or it may be a trend that just keeps on trending, but saving money is hotter than a celebrity baby boom right now and so is Pinterest. So is it possible that some of these "make it yourself" ideas on Pinterest can save you boat loads of money? The answer is probably yes.

The episode of Dr. Oz which aired on March 14, 2013 featured the Duggars, noted as "America's Biggest Family." In this episode, the Duggars discuss the enormous cost of raising nineteen children. With a family that size, budgeting and money savings are essential.

With the explosion of Pinterest, money saving recipes and ideas are floating over internet waves like a California wildfire. Wouldn't it be nice to know which ideas work and which ones don't?

The first contender is laundry detergent. Anyone who washes their own laundry knows that laundry detergent is expensive. From bargain brands all the way up to premium brands like Tide, detergents can cost over $20 to wash roughly 80 loads. A quick search on Pinterest brings up a recipe said to cost no more than $20 per year and works just as well. See that recipe here: http://www.thespacebetweenblog.net/2012/08/21/homemade-laundry-detergent/

Other Pinterest ideas that made the cut are homemade deodorant using coconut oil, homemade peanut butter, homemade almond butter, homemade baby wipes and many homemade natural house cleaning products.
