What happens when you take one reality TV show and add it to another? "Dancing with the Stars" has tried that recipe before with "Jersey Shore" and "Keeping up with the Kardashians" as well as the ill-advised outing with Kate Gosselin. What about something bigger that actually requires talent? This season there are three reality TV stars and one of them is American Idol favorite Kellie Pickler.

So this is a little bit of country--more than Marie Osmond brought over when she competed. Pickler was 19 when she was on the fifth season of "American Idol." She reached the top six, but was elminated. Since then, she's released her debut album, "Small Town Girl" and the 2008 self-titled record. She's had top ten hits and her third studio album, "100 Proof" was recognized by "Rolling Stone" and The Washington Post as the best of 2012.
As a country singer, Pickler does have a hard luck story. Her father and mother have been arrested and imprisoned. Pickler hasn't heard from her mother in 1997 when her grandparents were granted custody. Pickler's best friend, Summer Holt Miller, was undergoing chemo for breast cancer and Pickler shaved her head on "Good Morning America" last fall in support of her friend's treatment. Pickler is also a vegetarian.
Pickler married song writer Kyle Jacobs. They married in 2011.
Pickler comes with a proven audience following from American Idol. She'd partnered with another singer: Derek Hough. Hough performed the lead in the 2006 West End musical production of "Footloose."
Hough has won the mirrorball trophy three times (with Brooke Burke for season 7, Nicole Scherzinger for season 10 and Jennifer Grey for season 11); he's made the finals twice (Ricki Lake for season 13 and Shawn Johnson for season 15 All-Stars) and the semi-finals three times (Jennie Garth, Joanna Krupa and Maria Menounos).
Hough has a huge fan following and together this couple might have enough to get to the finals if Pickler can dance. They could make lovely music together even if she's a little country and he's a little bit rock and roll.
