Forget your standard beauty pageant featuring contestants judged for beauty, brains, talent and poise. All that is required for the tongue-in-cheek “Tatas and Tiaras 2013” pageant is an ability to ham it up and the more outrageous — the better. Benefiting the Indiana Aids Fund, the third annual fundraiser will be Monday, September 23 at 8 p.m. at the Talbott Street Nightclub, 2145 Talbott Street, on Indianapolis’ near north side.
“It is so much fun. It is campy. It is glittery and it is all for a great cause. The first year we raised $1,500, the 2nd year we raised $5,000 and we set our goal for $10,000 this year. We want it to be accessible and we want both performer and the audience to have an amazing time knowing that we can be helpful but have a great time doing it.” says Katie Angel, of Angel Burlesque.
Angel Burlesque has teamed up with Indy Pride and Talbott Street Nightclub to raise funds in support of the Indiana AIDS Walk. The goal of the Indiana AIDS Walk is to raise money for the Gregory R. Powers Direct Emergency Financial Assistance (DEFA) Fund. DEFA provides funds for emergency shelter, utilities, food, medicine, transportation and other critical needs of those living with HIV/AIDS.
The top ten competitors are Toby Poofs (Ben Snyder) (Independent), Ahneeta Martini (Indy Pride Bag Ladies), Sylvestia Stiletto (Angel Burlesque), Chlamydia Burns (Indy Pride Bag Ladies), Ru Bella (Independent Burlesque Performer), Belle Breeze (Angel Burlesque), Maggie Missile (Fusion Belly Dancer), Lola LaVacious (Angel Burlesque)
Jezebel Sinfell & Scarlett Nopantson (Cremes de les Femmes), Michael Todd Swinford (Indy Actor)
They had to raise the most funds by Aug. 30, in order to compete. The contestants will perform their talent in front of the audience and a panel of judges, to include Talbott Street star Asia LaBouche, who is also performing. During their performance audience members can ‘vote’ with cash for their favorite contestant. The winner will be decided by a combination of the judges’ scores and the total amount raised.
Miss Circle City LaTrina Bidet and Angel Burlesque performer Brigitte Petite will share emcee duties. Crowning the new winner will be 2012 Queen Bunny Van Doren.
A $5 suggested donation will be collected at the door and audience members are encouraged to ‘vote’ for their favorite contestants by tipping cash during the performances.
