Camping does not need to be expensive. This is a camping ground that is only about $5 a night. The camping area is great for exercise and the great thing is that you can go camping, hiking, exercising, and bird watching just a short drive from Fresno. The area is in Aberdeen California and is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The Goodale Creek area is typically open the second week in April all the way to November 1. There are over 30 different camp sites on the BLM land so it is likely that you will have no problem finding a place to go camping here. The best thing is that if you want to go camping longer and exercise more there are options for staying long term. The long term option is typically open for up to 14 days. You may want to come early in the morning just to be safe. Typically they do no accept reservations. Typically it is first come first serve for camping. There are about 62 RV and tent sites and some areas for pulling in trailers. Additionally there is drinking water available onsite in addition to toilets and campground hosts onsite.
The campground is just off of highway 395 and is in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. It is just below a beautiful volcanic rock flow. The campground boasts amazing views to the east of the Inyo Mountains and also the Owens Valley. The spring and fall are amazing times for camping and to get some exercise in nature. However the climate is high desert so the summers can be extremely hot so you may want to avoid it now.
If you need to buy anything the closest amenities are about 12 miles away so planning ahead is critical. The closest gas and grocery is about 12 miles in Independence to the south. Alternatively about 15 miles to the north in Big Pine you have groceries and gas.
Some of the things that you can enjoy as you exercise and go camping are fire rings, picnic tables, restrooms, fishing, hiking trails, hunting, swimming, and also wildlife viewing. It is a great place for going jogging to get some exercise in quickly.
