Sunday’s New York Times had a story that contradicts most of the recent election coverage. The Republican candidates and the presumed Democratic one, each have a sense of humor.
To be sure, most of what passes for their humor does not leave one, to use the e-mail acronym, ROFL (rolling on floor laughing). Regardless, each candidate’s team insists that “off the campaign trail” their man has a good sense of humor.
At first the article reminded this Examiner of the classic quote by Henry Cate VII...”The problem with political jokes is that they get elected.”
Then this Examiner started thinking about all the bombast and whether any messages are hidden in there somewhere. Hmmm. Maybe it’s time for a parody on what the seemingly omnipotent Willard Mitt Romney may be telling us he actually thinks he can do that Obama can’t do. So with all due apologies to the late Sammy Davis, Jr. and the others involved with The Candy Man, here is The Romney Man (by Mr. & Mrs. Columbus Elections 2012 Examiner):
He can take the country, now overrun with debt,
Give it back its glory, and overcome the rest.
The Romney Man can, the Omni Man can,
The Romney Man can, the Omni Man can,
With his biz acumen, we will stand the test
Omni Man can make the job mart, reach employment highs,
Sock it to Obama, and make investors “Buy!”
The Romney Man can, the Omni Man can,
The Romney Man can, the Omni Man can,
With his biz acumen, America will fly
The Omni Man will restore
Our homes, careers, and riches,
Our hopes will soar, our cities roar,
Safeguard our children’s wishes.
Who will save tomorrow, keep our dreams alive?
Send our business sailing, watch our nation thrive!
The Romney Man can, the Omni Man can,
The Romney Man can, the Omni Man can,
With his biz acumen, America will look good
And the world will know the Romney Man has understood.
