Childhood obesity has more than doubled over the last three decades. Obesity in childhood create a higher risk level for diseases later in life, such as cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure or diabetes to name a few. Healthy eating habits and physical activity can lower obesity rates as well as the risk of related diseases.
Children eager to live a healthier lifestyle, lose weight, and build self-esteem while having fun are invited to participate in the “Imagine Me! I'm Up for the Challenge: 6th Annual New Image Camp Essay Contest“ hosted by Camp Pocono Trails. Kids, ages 10-17, will have the opportunity to win a nine-week campership at Camp Pocono Trails in Reeders, PA. The camp is one of the only ACA accredited weight loss camps in the country. The retail prize value of a nine-week campership is $11,500. Entries for the summer of 2013 are now being accepted.
Applicants are required to submit an original essay of no more than 500 words, typed and double-spaced with the title, "Imagine Me! I'm Up for the Challenge at New Image Camp." The contest will be judged by a panel of experts based on elements including compelling nature of the story, clarity, and creativity. Essay entries must be accompanied by a photograph. The application and rules can be found at www.newimagecamp.com/contest.html and the deadline is 1 June 2013.
"We love offering kids that might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend camp and lose weight the chance to better themselves. The annual essay contest awards children that need a helping hand in order to live healthier and happier lives the opportunity to do so. I guarantee that campers will come home in the best physical and mental shape of their lives!" said Tony Sparber, owner, founder, and director of New Image Camps.
The camp aims to provide an environment where losing weight and having fun are integral parts of the summer camp experience. It promotes health, wellness, integrity and learning in an enjoyable summer camp environment while helping kids to build self-esteem and develop life-long friendships. The camp also ensured individualized attention that yields long-lasting results.
