Camp notes: Manny Pacquiao battling flu, Sparring partner says Manny wins easily

Despite being ahead of the training schedule and in great shape, Manny Pacquiao has been battling the flu for nearly 2 weeks now as he prepares for his upcoming fight with Shane Mosley on Saturday May 7th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. On Monday, Pacquiao talked about his battle with the flu in his latest official column on PhilBoxing.com.

“The last few days, I was affected by the change in weather so I still carry the flu that I’ve been experiencing since before we came in here. But I’m feeling a little better now, and I’m ready for the toughest part of my training,”

From eye witness accounts, you would not be able to notice that Manny has been suffering from the flu. His level of conditioning is ahead of schedule and many members of his team think Manny can step in the ring right now and fight Mosley. Trainer Freddie Roach recently said that Manny looks great and should beat Mosley within the first 7 rounds.

Pacquiao is committed to beating Mosley and is training like Shane is the toughest opponent he's ever faced. Despite feeling sick, Manny still pushes through his training including tough sparring sessions.

“I just sparred eight rounds the last time against three sparring partners. Even if my body aches because of the flu, I made sure I trained. And the results were still good,”

In regards to his sparring, Freddie Roach brought in Karim "Hard Hitta" Mayfield to play the role of Shane Mosley in training camp. Mayfield has also assisted other fighters like Antonio Margarito and Sergio Mora in preparations for their bouts against Mosley in 2009 and 2010 respectively.

On Tuesday, Mayfield told Examiner.com that he was amazed by Pacquiao's hand and foot speed. Mayfield also shared his prediction on the upcoming fight.

"I knew Manny was fast and he is definitely fast. I think he's going to beat the crap out of Mosley."

It's clear, Manny Pacquiao is heading into this fight in top shape and ready to make quick work of Shane Mosley.
