Camp Broadway is a summer camp for young aspiring artists, performers and theater fans ages 10 through 17. Broadway professionals will travel to 12 different cities around the country this summer to teach these camps and will be in San Antonio at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre in August. Las Casas Foundation is a proud supporter of the performing arts through education and is hosting this camp to help young performers achieve their dreams.
This is a week-long camp set for Monday August 4 through Friday August 8 that immerses children in an authentic Broadway rehearsal process and gives them the opportunity to train with Broadway professionals. It helps them develop confidence and sharpen their performance skills through ensemble performance regardless of their experience level. Camp Broadway is Broadway’s Original Summer Camp and children from around the world have benefitted from these summer camps for the last 18 years. Some of the participants have been featured in events like The New York Spring Gala at Carnegie Hall.
Classes will be from 8:30a.m. to 5:30p.m each day which translates to 40 hours of instruction in singing, dancing and acting as children learn scenes and songs from real Broadway shows. It is open to performers of all skill levels and no prior experience is needed.
The cost for this summer camp is $600 and the registration deadline is July 15, 2014. Early registration can be done online and is suggested since entry to the San Antonio programs is limited to 100 students. This fee does not include accommodations but The Sheraton Gunter has packages available for camp attendees. Guests can book rooms online using the code “camp.” Las Casas Foundation has scholarships available for those in need. Details and applications are available online.
