It is not too early to plan where you might send your person with special needs this summer for some fun times at camp. Camp Barnabas located near Purdy, Missouri has weekly camps offered to a wide range of people with disabilities. They serve up to 1,500 campers throughout the summer. Campers can be age 7 and up to age 45, depending on the week they attend. Those with intellectual/developmental disabilities, Autism, physical disabilities, Asperger's, blind, chronic diseases, deaf/hearing impaired can participate in summer activities that have been adapted to their special needs. No matter what limitations a camper might have, Camp Barnabas will find a way for each person to have fun!
The camp was launched in 1996 by Cyndy and Paul Teas. Cyndy had been working at Kanakuk Kamps as the Director of Health Services when she was inspired to open this camp. A camp where everyone is given value and significance no matter what they look like or what they can do. Camp Barnabas believes everyone is uniquely created by God to live a life of ability and to reach their fullest potential.
Camp Barnabas provides a volunteer for every camper. This is an excellent way to spend the summer for someone desiring to learn about and love people with disabilities. Volunteers are needed to be Cabin Counselors, Cabin Mom or Dad, Cooks Helper, Maintenance or Nurses Assistant. What an opportunity to be part of a life changing experience with people who have special needs in a Christian camp setting.
