Cameron Diaz tells Dr. Oz about 'Body Book' weight loss tips; fat-blocking tea

Since beginning his health talk show, Dr. Mehmet Oz has become known for inviting celebrities to discuss their own health tragedies and triumphs. On his Jan. 15 episode, Dr. Oz talked with superstar Cameron Diaz about her new nutrition book and weight loss tips. In addition, Dr. Oz unveiled a new tea that he says can reduce stress and block fat.

Cameron wrote her book because she wants to help women "have the best body that you can have," she said of her guide: "The Body Book: The Law of Hunger, the Science of Strength, and Other Ways to Love Your Amazing Body."

Concerned that many women weren't sure how their bodies worked, she conducted her own research so that she could produce a book that showed how to have "the healthiest, most capable, most vital body."

When it comes to diet, Cameron emphasizes the importance of feeding your hunger rather than denying it. The key to weight loss: Choosing the right foods to satisfy your cravings while boosting your health.

Cameron told Dr. Oz that she feels healthy carbohydrates are important, but she recommends timing them by eating them early in the day. One of her favorite carbs: Pasta made with quinoa rather than wheat. Quinoa is gluten-free and contains more protein to help your metabolism function properly to facilitate weight loss. Look for it in health stores or online, such as Ancient Harvest Quinoa Pasta.

In addition, she emphasizes the role that water plays in weight loss and health. Drink a big bottle of water as soon as you wake up to hydrate. Fruits and vegetables also contain water, and snacking on fruit as well as nuts can help you control your hunger during the day while boosting weight loss, says Cameron.

Are you a vegan or vegetarian? Cameron suggests using nutritional yeast to replace cheese on foods ranging from pasta to popcorn. It contains vitamins as well as protein. This type of yeast is different than the type used for making pastry, and it sometimes contains other seasonings, such as Bragg Nutritional Yeast Seasoning.

Dr. Oz also talked about a new tea for weight loss. It's called Matcha tea, and Dr. Oz says that it can reduce anxiety because it contains L-Theanine. This amino acid relaxes you.

Matcha tea also strengthens your immune system and prevents cardiovascular disease. In addition, Dr. Oz considers matcha tea to be effective for weight loss, because it blocks fat and prevents it from being absorbed. It's available as a powder, such as Matcha Green Tea Powder, or in tea bags, such as Kirkland Signature Ito En Matcha Blend.
