One of the great sports country folks enjoy is basketball but when poor sportsmanship rears its ugly head then its game over. Duke took the not-so-friendly game Thursday night from NC State. It is unknown if the players getting heckled had any affect on the outcome of the game, but one thing is clear, Duke students lack any class.
Duke students or rather “Cameron Crazies” (CC) showed extremely poor sportsmanship during the game chanting unnecessary phrases at point guard, Tyler Lewis, over the loss of his grandmother.
Lewis' grandmother, Margie Lewis, age 83, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013.
About Thursdays game, “I just played for her," Lewis says, “She did a lot for me. I just wanted to show the strength I had for her and what she meant to the family.”
At Cameron Indoor Stadium on February 7, 2013, the Duke line monitors wrote on their whiteboard, “Its past Tyler Lewis’ bedtime,” and flashed it on the video scoreboard. The Crazies began chanting “Past your bedtime” and the worst was yet to happen.
Tyler Lewis’ grandmother, Margie Lewis, passed away at age 83 on Saturday, February 2, 2013. Lewis was close to his grandmother always calling her while she was in the hospital.
The actual cheer, “Past your bedtime” became a taunting “How’s your grandmother” at Tyler Lewis. The Crazies crowd doled out more cheap shots toward NC State teammates including shouting jabs at Lewis’ short stature calling him, “Bilbo Baggins.”
