Calvary Baptist holds fifth annual fishing seminar March 26th

Calvary Baptist Church of Brewerton NY is holding its fifth annual fishing seminar on Saturday March 26th from 9:00am to 4:00pm.  This event is free, and open to the public.  Calvary Baptist states the following on their website at http://www.cbcbrewerton.org:

“Our annual fishing seminar will take place on Saturday, March 26 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. The Fishing Seminar includes demonstrations by the Department of Conservation, instructional seminars, fly casting, and of course, live fish! Come join the fun, then use what you've learned to compete in the Fishing Derby held in early May. This family-friendly event is free of charge, and registration is open!”

This annual event is headed up by Calvary Deacon Mike Riordan.   Mike is always one to “trust in The Lord” and this year, The Lord provided in a special way.  Mike stated at the Sunday March 20th service, that while he was working, he was on an elevator at one of the hospitals.  Two men walked in and the one man stated to the other that he just was given a vast collection of fishing supplies (rods, tackle, etc.) from a fisherman who was now retiring.  He stated to the man that he was trying to unload the gear as he had no need for it.  Mike quickly introduced himself and informed the men of Calvary’s annual fishing seminar.  The two exchanged contact information, and a few days later, the fishing gear had been donated to Calvary Baptist for the fishing seminar.  This was The Lord’s work providing for us, stated Mike at Sunday’s service.

Jesus Calls His First Disciples

1 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret,[a] the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. 2 He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.

4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”

5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”

6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” 9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners.

Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” 11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.
