NFL Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow is making headline news again this week, but it isn't only due to his new 5-1 winning game ranking, as the football star is also blazing a financial trail for kids needing surgery in the Philippines, where Tim was born. The quarterback is asking his fans to help him finish raising needed funds through a "Dollar Day" campaign.
The Tim Tebow Foundation and CURE International forged a relationship earlier this year, but the building of the Tebow CURE hospital in the Philippines will be their first project in that partnership.
The total project cost will be $3.1 million and the Heisman Trophy winner has managed to meet all of that need except for the last $700,000 of it. That’s where Tebow fans come into the picture.
Tim is asking his fans to participate in Dollar Day by donating $1 each on Tuesday, Nov. 29. The football player hopes the remainder needed financially for the hospital building project in the Philippines can be reached in just a single day.
“I am so thankful for my fans and the support they’ve always shown me,” Tebow said, and that is why he is “excited for this opportunity” for them to join him now in a project Tim says “is so close to my heart.”
Unlike Tim, who enjoys immense athletic ability, children in poorer countries do not all have that physical freedom. Tim wants to see that change, and he's confident his fans do too.
"Whether I'm working out or on a football field I rely on my athletic ability," Tebow said, "but millions of children in the developing world can't even walk, run or play with their friends."
It is this inability of the smallest and youngest in our world to enjoy the most basic physical abilities that is motivating the physically active athlete to intervene. He believes his fans feel the same way and will help him achieve the needed financial goal for these children to have their own hospital.
“Dollar Day is a very real, impactful way to help Tim reach this goal that is so important to him,” Tim Tebow Foundation’s Executive Director Erik Dellenback said. And Dellenback is confident Tim’s fans will show their support today, as they have in the past. “Tim’s fans are always eager to get involved and to make a difference,” he said.
Georgians may support a different football team than Tim Tebows, but we can all support helping a child in need. You can make your online donation for the new hospital for children at the Tim Tebow Foundation. Receipts will be given to all donors to the Tebow CURE Hosptial in the Philippines.
