Calling all students of food across Boston and beyond

Community Table is Food Sol's weekly gathering on Tuesdays over lunch. It's open to Babson students, faculty and staff members, alumni, and prospective students who have a personal or professional interest in food.

We gather around one table and engage in one conversation. Participants share their names and their reasons for coming. We ask them to do this because declaring personal desire brings attendees into the room – heads, hearts, and stomachs. And when voices are authentic, people listen to each other differently.

Most people who come to Community Table are wired to want to solve problems. They bring questions and insights relevant to what they are up to right now. For entrepreneurs in particular, the Table has become an efficient and effective place to network, brainstorm, and pinpoint their next smart action steps toward what they want to create for the world.

On March 29th from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, members of Food Sol at Babson College, Harvard Food Law and Policy Clinic and Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition will lead a Cross Campus Community Table hosted by Whole Foods Market on River Street. We're calling on all students of food -- from the fields of business, entrepreneurship, policy, law, nutrition science, technology, gastronomy, ecology, sustainability, urban planning, and agriculture -- to join us.

Food is a system. Since we all eat, that system is gargantuan, wickedly complex, and far-reaching in its influence and impact. No one of us knows it in its entirety. But every one of us knows something.

Young food movers and shakers know a lot more than they may give themselves credit for. Assembling their pieces of knowledge can produce insights that drive great and deserving food ideas forward.

Gathering to haphazardly spew ideas (most of them not actually new) can feel like scattering seeds onto already crowded soil. Gathering to tend the seeds that have already been sown can galvanize a community -- and change the world in the process.

Our thesis for March 29th is that multidisciplinary lenses on food -- from students, for students -- can help existing "bite-sized" initiatives to expand and thrive.

Conversation will center on current students' curricular, co-curricular, and professional projects. But the Table is open to everyone. When it comes to food, we are all students and we are all teachers.

Hosts can only set the Table. You must come for this to work. Please spread the word, and please join us. RSVP required: rgreenberger1@babson.edu.

See you there!
