Fans of the Ford Mustang are being invited to join two huge celebrations honoring the iconic "Pony Car". The Ford Mustang is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The Mustang debuted in 1964 and quickly became one of Ford's best-loved vehicles.
Two gigantic birthday celebrations are scheduled for April 16-20, 2014. One festival will be held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The other event is being held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The events will kick off with two historic caravans of Mustangs. Mustangs from every decade are being invited to join the parades, which begin in Norman, Oklahoma, on Sunday, April 13, 2014. One caravan will head west to Las Vegas, Nevada. The other will drive east to Charlotte, North Carolina. Thousands of vehicles are expected.
The Mustang Club of America is organizing five days of events at both locations, with the support of Ford Motor.
In a statement, Ronald Bramlett, the executive director of the Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration says, "The official Mustang 50th anniversary celebration will kick off in the middle of the country so people can enjoy these pony cars as they were intended to be used, 'on the road.'" Bramlett adds "We believe this will be the largest group of Mustangs traveling together in the world."
The historic caravans are being called Pony Drives. More information is available at the celebrations' official website.
