Hi Northeast and Canadian bike racers,
Hope you had good racing at Killington! Now there’s nothing to distract you from signing up for our races!
This coming weekend May 31 and June 1 we are counting on you joining us for the First Annual Wilmington-Whiteface Race Weekend -- yes, we are keeping it local in Wilmington, NY (Cycling Capital of the Adirondacks!) this year for two days of racing, with a flattish circuit race added to our traditional very hilly road race, and we hope to make it a tradition! The weather forecast is looking good so far, with temps around 70 on Saturday and high 70s Sunday, low chance of scattered showers.
You can help us get a good start on making the weekend a tradition by coming out and racing with us. You can't beat the value, entry fees at $35 for the circuit race and $40 for the road race, $15 for juniors. Walkup registration available but all categories except beginners (men 5, women 4, and juniors without license) pay an extra $10 and BikeReg is so much easier for everyone: please use it if possible!
The Wilmington Circuit race on Saturday, May 31 will not be hard because of terrain, though we hope it will be hard due to the competition you and your fellow competitors provide. It’s on a nine-mile loop, very gently rolling except for one fast third-of-a-mile descent into a slight runout before a 90-degree right into a twisting, gentle climb and a false flat sprint finish. The final kilometer or so of the course will is great pavement and will be closed to traffic (on all laps) so the full width of the road will be available.
The Wilmington-Whiteface Road Race moves to Sunday, June 1 for its seventh edition, with its main attractions still the same as ever: the one-mile Black Brook Hill, the Silver Lake Road “Super-Rollers,” the twisting and cascading Turnpike Road with its downhill hairpin turn, the 50 mph descent of North Hill (all negotiated once on each lap), then the fast return to Wilmington on Bonnie View Road, and the finishing 1.6 mile climb up the lower slopes of Whiteface Mountain to Santa's Workshop.
You Pro 1/2/3 racers are not going to let CCB Racing pick up the $1700 in prizes for that field over the two days uncontested, are you?? Come on and take on the challenge!
For both days, we have instituted a Men's 4/5 field instead of the traditional straight cat 5. Now cat 4s can choose between the 3/4 race and the 4/5. 3s can choose between the 3/4 and the 1/2/3.
We have also changed the Women's 4 race to a 3/4 (which also includes masters and junior women): similarly to the men's side, 3s can also race with the 1/2/3 women.
We feel strongly about supporting young junior racing, so have a combined boys and girls 9-14 field both days (separate places and prizes for both genders and four age groups). One-plus laps on the circuit course on Saturday and a 12-mile rolling out-and-back with flat finish on Sunday. Junior men and women 15-18 race the full road course on Sunday (men separated into 15-16 and 17-18 for places and prizes).
Come race for a combined $6000-plus worth of cash, merchandise, and medals.
There are also series points on the line in the Graffiti Road Weekly Points Series towards end-of-season state and national awards. (See http://www.aluminumcowboycycling.com/graffiti-road.html )
Signup is on BikeReg at https://www.bikereg.com/wilmington-circuit-race and https://www.bikereg.com/wilmington-whiteface-road-race or on the day of the races at least thirty minutes prior to your race ($10 walkup fee except in men’s 5, women’s 4, and junior fields).
Canadians of course are welcomed but licensed riders must present UCI (not provincial) license and photo ID to race! Canadians who are beginners/non-license-holders can purchase a one-day license to race as a category 5 (male) or category 4 (female) or junior in fields that are not restricted to a higher category.
