Ever wanted to learn an art that would really illuminate the way you write your Book of Shadows, your correspondence, or other important documents that just screams awesome? Then this Saturday, plan to attend the Spring Brunch at PJ's Lager House at 1254 Michigan Avenue in Detroit to learn the art of Calligraphy as taught by designer and crafter Genna Cowsert.
Do not be intimidated, as this is a
"beginner level class, we will learn the basics of Copperplate calligraphy, from holding an oblique calligraphy pen, to practicing the basic shapes, to writing the alphabet. We will start from the very beginning, so no prior experience is necessary."
This is a Small Craft event, so you know it has got to be fun and friendly. This group meets on the second Saturday of every month at the Trumbleplex. All ages and skill levels converge on a nexus point of crafting fabulousness here in the "D".
It is quickly becoming an obscure art to hand write your Book of Shadows. It is becoming rarer to use calligraphy to denote the special nature of the script also. If this is an art that Calls to you, it may be a great time to begin your studies.
The class is scheduled to be held from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm, and the cost is $20 to cover the materials. They include "one Nikko G nib, one oblique pen holder, one jar of black ink, one pad of layout bond paper and a packet of letter samples". In order to make sure that supplies are adequate, preregistration is required. You may visit the link here.
Please note that the cost of the brunch is not included. I heartily recommend that even if you do not take the class, checking out this island of inspiration should be on your to do list. Who knows what spark may be kindled over coffee, after all.
