The federal government will open its doors after what it termed a delay in appropriations and this weekend is a good time to take a few minutes to change your life, particularly if you have been affected by predatory lending. Bankruptcy protection is essential to the protection of the free market and it's not just the mortgage crisis we have been suffering from, it's student loans now at a trillion dollars in debt, more than credit cards. Student loans come with no basic consumer rights so predatory lenders find them easy prey. Suicidal is a fairly common word in this world.
If you think it's bad personally, Berkeley attorney Gerard Launay of the Consumer Law Center says the student debt is being used by big banks to sell to China.
Take a look at the stunning video by Jane Foody, meanwhile, who believed as we all did the "American dream" propaganda about having a home and family and a better life with hard work, getting by on the merits.
The American nightmare is that student loans cripple borrowers for life causing enormous mental pain and suffering as well as precluding participation in normal lives with a family, a family home, a car and simple amenities and rewards. Senior citizens have suffered their entire entire lives and then have disability and social security garnished. I include below a story of the trauma of a defenseless debtor having to fight US Department of Justice attorneys in federal bankruptcy court in an adversary proceeding over student loans 25 years old, which started as a bill dispute after being harassed and bullied out of law school night classes in 1985. Read thousands of personal stories on the internet, at sites such as the original, www.studentloanjustice.org.
First, let's take a minute and pick up the phone and leave messages for key legislators who have been forces in keeping a segment of the population crippled.
Here's an activist re-post with the numbers.
There are several key republican leaders that have been a serious thorn in our side regarding our progress with the restoration of bankruptcy protections for student loan debt.
Right now, because of the government shutdown, they are under enormous pressure like never before.
Right now is an outstanding time to politely but very firmly get on their backs.
Let's seize it.
Point out to them that the immediate return of bankruptcy protections for student loans, is calling for nothing more than the return of a fundamental, free-market mechanism that Adam Smith himself would agree must be in place for the stability, fairness, and health of any lending system.
The following conservative experts and organizations agree with this:

It will probably take you less than five minutes to help change your entire life.
NOTHING will change and happen if you don't simply pick up the phone and fight for yourself, your family, and your future.
Let's do this.

Note last year Romney said to let Americans pursue their dreams so indeed, let Americans pursue their dreams by freedom from crippling student debt
Discharge office in San Francisco
The United States Department of Education does operate a large discharge office they call the office of entitlement. It’s right near the Embarcadero BART station, hiding in plain sight. Here is the person who sits at her desk and decrees that your forty thousand dollars in loans has turned into one hundred thousand and you owe it forever. Like a fairy tale, she spins your straw into gold.

The feds are self-proclaimed adversaries of the people
Student loans come with what’s called adversary proceedings in bankruptcy court, which means the creditors, including the US Department of Education and it’s attorneys, the US Department of Justice, gang up on defenseless borrowers who have no attorney and no money, namely in San Francisco it’s the civil division in the federal building at Civic Center in SF under the civil division chief.
His newly retired predecessor Joanne Swanson hired a solo practitioner collecting bills for the department out of Alameda, California, a Michael Cosentino, about 5’7” and in his late sixties or 70, near retirement age. He showed up in federal court in hiking boots and a backpack. He attended in the 1970s an absolutely unknown law school in a room at 20 Haight Street where one finds used syringes on the sidewalk.
