During an investors report on May 6; Activsion revealed that Call of Duty: Ghosts was the best-selling game for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The report shows that Call of Duty: Ghosts was the best selling Next-Gen game in North America and the second best seller in Europe. Overall it has been estimated that the game has generated over $1.11 billion in sales. This surprised many experts given the competition from Battlefield 4 and Assassins Creed IV. Activsion CEO Eric Hirshberg described the sales numbers as, "An important achievement as we establish Call of Duty as the first person action game of choice for the next-gen."
This announcement comes a week after Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was officially announced to be in the works.
While the news has surprised many, some however question this claim given that Activsion has not revealed how many copies Call of Duty: Ghosts have been sold. According to Metro; this could be due to the game not selling as well when compared to Black Ops II and Modern Warfare 3.
It was unveiled in a report from Cowen & Company that sales for Call of Duty: Ghosts were down by 19 percent when compared to Black Ops II and 36 percent when compared to Modern Warfare 3. Also both of its predecessors broke sales records by generating over $1 billion in record days.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is the tenth game in the popular series that has sold over 100 million copies and on average has 40 million active players a month. The game has players take on the role as operatives of the Ghosts as they wage a war against the Federation in an attempt to defend America's sovereignty.
