What's a taste of the next generation without a Call of Duty game? Microsoft doesn't know, because Call of Duty: Ghosts saw the event off with its world premier and behind-the-scenes footage.
Call of Duty: Ghosts will launch on the Xbox One and all downloadable content for it will be One timed exclusives.
Ghosts includes an all-new cast driven by a story from Stephen Gaghan, screenwriter of the academy-award winner Traffic and the mind-numingly boring Syriana. I Gaghan realizes (or Infinity Ward for that matter) that writing for the HDTV screen is not the same as writing for the silver screen.
The game includes a new engine for bringing the characters closer to the player, utilizing player models detailed down to the hair on their arms and the dirt under their fingernails.
The cast of Ghosts is made up of the remnants of the world's special forces. That is to say, it's another disaster scenario. What is different, however, is the introduction of a new buddy on your team. Not just any old friend, MAN'S best friend -- a dog. The dog works as a part of your team and can sniff out explosives before you accidentally step on one. Ghosts incorporates a new A.I. system for a more natural experience. For instance, when swimming, fish move in groups and are alerted to your presence, moving out of the way.
Multiplayer in Ghosts is getting a pretty novel revamp. Not only will players be able to customize their characters from their heads, bodies, helmets and gears, but the environments will react to the player-inflicted destruction. We got to see floods moving cars into previously open areas of the map, logs falling off the back of a truck to create cover and power lines crushing cars. (That last one is probably just for the sake of awesome.)
"It will be the best Call of Duty game we've ever made," said Activision's Erik Hirschberg.
