An elderly California woman is lucky to be alive after her SUV ended up in the swimming pool of an apartment complex.
Merced Police responded to a call at Granville Luxury Apartments around 9:51 A.M. Wednesday after it was reported that a vehicle crashed into a pool, according to a press release obtained by outlandishnews.com. Police arrived and discovered a 2000 Chevy Blazer completely submerged in the apartment complex swimming pool.
The driver of the vehicle, 69-year-old Pamela Gwyn of Merced was traveling eastbound on Willowbrook from Highway 59, when for unknown reasons she failed to make the right hand turn.
According to the press release:
Gwyn drove through the rod iron fence, on the outside of the complex, and continued approximately fifty feet where she hit the swimming pool.
A local man by the name of Craig Lafleur, 57, grabbed the roof rack of the SUV and pulled it to the edge moments before he broke out the back window of the vehicle with a lawn chair, bringing Gwyn to safety.
“If it were not for the quick actions of Lafleur this accident may have had a different ending,” claims police spokesperson Sgt. Jay Struble.
Police reported no injuries to Gwyn or Lefleur.
