Last year I suggested that Maryland could end up with a 6.5% sales tax. A few posters criticized me and said this was ludicrous. Our sales tax had just been raised from 5% to 6% so another raise would be impossible. Now look at our economy. With slots blowing up in our faces and the national economy in shambles, Maryland is going to need to find sources of money to fund the bloated state government (they really need to drastically cut programs and pensions but they will not). Look at what is going on in California. You know our leaders are paying close attention to what the politicians are getting away with there to see if they can replicate it on a smaller scale here. California is on the verge of an 8.25% sales tax! If 8.25% is possible there you better believe that 7% is possible here. Here are some highlights of the California budget proposal. Familiarize yourselves with this information so you can be able to fight anything even close to this in Maryland:
"The budget proposal would raise the state sales-tax rate to 8.25 percent from 7.25 percent; boost vehicle license fees to 1.15 percent from 0.65 percent of the value of an automobile; add 12 cents to the per-gallon gasoline tax; reduce the dependant-care tax credit to $100 from $300 and impose a surcharge of as much as 5 percent on income taxes, amounting to an extra $50 for every $1,000 owed to the state."

CA will end up bankrupt as it should. The producers will be forced from the state leaving the illegals and losers. It will never come back.
I heard CA is looking at 10% sales tax and a .50 gal tax on gas.
They could wipe out the deficit by leasing the rights to drill for oil but nooooo. Redistributing the wealth is the new liberalism.
Let's start with governor boo, boo and Mayor I didn't do it retracting those pay raises they gave to their top level staff. Also if your going to furlough people they how did certain groups get to be exempt the judiciary, law enforcement, etc...
When Glenndenning was in office my fellow Civil war living historian and I used to joke that Maryland's state motto should be, " If you can dream it we can tax it?" I will look forward to reading more blogs of yours. If you get time I hope you will check out my site on Philadelpia Progressive examiner. I once lived on Lombard St. just up from U. of Md. and I to have always loved B'more.
