We all know & love California Pizza Kitchen (“CPK”), the California kid who basically introduced America to California-style pizzas some 30 years ago. CPK has continued to pave the way across the country, including its popular Boca Raton location in Town Center. But never one to rest on its laurels, the segment leader has developed a new “Reimagined” menu, along with an updated interior design. After a successful test run in its flagship Beverly Hills, CA location, CPK has chosen Boca Raton and Ft. Lauderdale to debut its new rollout.

“The menu has been designed to include unique offerings made with seasonal and unexpected ingredients in every category, while extensive remodeling serves as an elevated backdrop to a reimagined dining experience,” notes CEO G.J. Hart. “The reformation not only breathes some new, up-to-date life into the restaurants, but also takes CPK back to its roots of innovation and authenticity.” But don’t worry CPK fans, you’ll still find your old favorites – especially its signature hand-tossed BBQ Chicken Pizza, pastas, and salads.

The new menu spans the culinary gamut, from appetizers to desserts. Take, for instance, the Maine Lobster Flatbread, with Maine Lobster, fresh herbs, arugula, and shaved red onions on a Parmesan flatbread. The lobster-roll-meets-pizza hybrid makes a perfectly shareable starter, or can serve as a light meal on its own. I particularly love the Harvest Kale Salad, a delightful conglomeration of tender baby kale, toasted farro (a toothsome Italian buckwheat), heirloom carrots, Napa cabbage, red grapes, marinated cranberries, almonds, and goat cheese, tossed in a very light housemade citrus vinaigrette. It’s light, refreshing, and extremely healthful, yet quite satisfying, with an intriguing interplay of tastes, textures, and colors in every bite.

Two of God’s greatest creations – pizza and breakfast – join forces to create the new Sunny Side Up Bacon & Potato Pizza. Imagine CPK’s signature pizza dough topped with Nueske’s applewood smoked bacon, shaved fingerling potatoes, caramelized leeks, Parmesan, Mozzarella, two sunny-side-up eggs, and fresh cracked black pepper. Yes, Life is good….

But the reimagined menu goes way beyond pizza, including some exciting new Entrees. Roasted Garlic Chicken with Seasonal Vegetables was a unanimous hit, and the judges’ favorite item new item. A generous boneless chicken breast arrives perfectly moist and juicy, beautifully bronzed with a flavor-packed crispy skin. It’s enhanced with Mediterranean herbs and a delicate lemon-garlic sauce, then presented atop a bed of hearth-roasted cauliflower, baby carrots, and fingerling potatoes. If you were in the mood for some great roasted chicken, you probably would never have thought of California Pizza Kitchen – nor would you have ordered roasted chicken if you were at CPK. But rest assured, CPK’s new Roasted Garlic Chicken will have you “Reimagining” your chicken philosophy. Other new mainplates include a beautifully marbled 12-oz. Fire-Grilled Ribeye with housemade Pinot Noir sea salt, special bleu cheese butter, roasted fingerling potatoes, and a light lemon-garlic arugula salad (which pairs quite well with Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon). Hearth-Roasted Wild-caught Halibut is roasted on a cedar plank with butternut squash farro and grilled asparagus. Try it with the Clos du Bois unoaked Chardonnay.

Also check out the customer-driven Lunch Duos, where you choose two options from a selection of pizzas, salads, sandwiches, and soups. In the mood for a Shaved Cremini Mushroom & Spinach Pizza with Farmers Market Soup? You got it. Or perhaps an Oven-Roasted Turkey & Brie Sandwich, with a Super Spinach & Quinoa Salad? No prob. To accompany this elevated cuisine, the Beverage Menu features an upgraded selection of handcrafted cocktails made with fresh juices, fruits, purées and herbs. Our favorite was the Blueberry Ginger Smash, a tasty collusion of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, organic agave nectar, ginger liqueur, fresh blueberries, lime and cranberry juice. California Roots is an inspired amalgamation of Svedka Vodka, fresh mint, fresh avocado, and fresh Agave Sour with a fennel salt rim. Or, make a decision to try the Executive Decision, made with Casamigos Blanco Tequila, muddled mint, fresh Agave Sour, organic Agave Nectar, and fresh lime. Finish with a new dessert, like the new Salted Caramel Pudding, or the insanely delicious Butter Cake a la Haagen-Dazs!
