June 26, 2011 – On the first day of its last season at the Los Angeles Arboretum, the California Philharmonic (Cal Phil) announced that the Santa Anita Park will become its new home and partner in the summer of 2012.
The Santa Anita Park will provide an upgraded experience with its 4,500 parking spaces, permanent bathrooms, full bars, children’s play area, and with the planned addition of video screens over the stage. Just as the patrons are accustomed to, the new location will have tables in the infield, a chair section, and a lawn section. Opening night is set for June 30, 2012 and will continue every other Saturday for five concerts.
Maestro Victor Vener gave the news to those in attendance Saturday, who received them with thunderous applause. Meanwhile, the 2011 continues at the Arboretum June 9 with the theme “Andrew Lloyd Webber Meets Puccini,” when Cal Phil will perform selections such as Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, La Boheme, Evita, Madame Butterfly, and much more.
